Pretty good adaptation. a bit like a "speedrun" of the story from the games. its kinda sad at the end that they skipped almost 3 hours of story content of the guilin area from the game.
In the game after ryo did catch shenhua in the water, they were hiking like 2 days through the mountains with ALOT of conversation about the world and themselves. that game gave the characters alot of time for bonding. because bailu village is very far inland of guilin and not easy to reach. i especially miss the part where they stay the night in a cave and shenhua is singing her "Shenhua theme" at night on a tree waking ryo up with it. there are ALOT of very charming and memorable scenes happening in the game during that time that they just skipped here. also the "Shenmue" title reveal was SOOOOOO much better in the game. after 40hours of playing shenmue 1-2 and after 3 hours of hiking through the mountains.. finally reaching the house and the first you see is this gigantic beautiful tree and then she reveals the name, is one of my fav magic moments in a video game ever. it gave me major goosebumps especially with the shenmue theme playing. i suggest you searching for the (game) scene on youtube. its MUCH better handeled in the game. but else the Anime adaptation was good.

Its hard to put a 50 hour game/content in 12 eps

Just look at persona 4 and 5 anime
They hade 20+ Episodes and still were skipping a lot of things

So for shenmue to fit everything they needed at least 30 eps if not more

I don't understand then why couldn't they make it as long as it needed to be? Nobody would have complained for the anime to be over 50 episodes! :(

maybe they rushed that 'long walk' to get to the conclusion in the cave for episode 13. as i've read online, games 1 and 2 were INCREDIBLY long, boring, and 'grindy'. so i guess trying to fit THAT many hours of play-time for two games into 13 eps is NOT easy. :D

maybe in s2 opener you'll get some of that 'long walk'. :D

They are are not THAT "long" and the game has 0 grind(you can train your moves but its totally not necessary. just later in the second game you have to get some money but there are super easy cheese methodes to get it). and "boring" is subjective. its not that action heavy and more like an advanture(talking to alot of people). these games are living from its atmosphere. abit similar to the persona series. many people are a bit turned off from the first few hours of the first shenmue game. because its about figuring out who the man was who killed ryos father (talking to alot of people who would maybe have a connection, like to chinese people, and sailors. thats where the shenmue sailor meme came from). as i said, the adaptation is pretty good of the anime. but what makes the shenmue games so special is the living breathing world(similar to RDR2 where every NPC basically has its own daily routine and life) and the atmosphere. to a point where you really start to feel like its your home(especially in shenmue 1).

Nice that Ren realized Ryou stopped touching his wound on his cheek, I guess his encounter with Lan Di has made him able to take a step forward since he was so blind with revenge but was able to overcome it in the end.

I am guessing if this gets a sequel we'll see Ren again from what he says, after all he knows there'll be lots of treasures if he continues the journey with Ryou lol.

The story goes on... But the anime has just ended T^T
This has been a good gem and hope for a season 2 in the near future but from what I heard that this first season covers the first 2 games of the franchise and only the 3rd game has been out. So ether this will go with a anime original after it may cover the 3rd game, or this just be left in the air with no S2, only time will tell.
This has been really good in my opinion and so underrated as a anime with all the art to visuals and I give it a solid 7/10. Also no announcement for S2 yet at this point or time or even being canceled.

As for the next original I've heard was pose to be Junji Ito project but it's not coming out for a little while so there won't be another anime at this time slot for a while so see you then.

They got material for another season based on Shenmue 3. If Shenmue 4 doesn't happen this could be a venue to finish the story in.
But, i believe it will happen.

Waiting for Season 2

He met Yuanda Zhu.
He met Shenhua.
Defeated the gang boss.
And had rematch with the final boss Lan Di.

Basically got everything I wanted out of this season.

If there will be another season, I only hope that Shenhua is useful. I love her design. Something about her feels nostalgic.

Ignoring weird moments like how he passed out and let a small girl carry him somehow. She has the sheep to care for. Sheep can jump back in the water again if she doesn't guide it.

So it’s been over a decade since I played the game, but this would have covered shemnue 1 and 2 right? If so, shenmue 3 would definitely need a full one cour anime to wrap things up.

I think this episode was pretty solid, honestly made me a little sad to see it end with how they closed everyone in Hong King’s arcs out. Felt like I was Ryo leaving friends behind. Nice finale

I wish they could have made the story continue with over 50 episodes! But it was great! :'(

Pretty good adaptation, I would have been happy with more forklifts, but still really good!

Well it's was quite faithful to the game's story but a bit rushed the quality is budget level still pretty enjoyable! I liked how Joy, Wong got more screen time and we got to see more of their personality and past! Ren cool as ever!
The best thing that I got from this anime is the intro! It's pretty good and also the new version of Shenmue main theme!
Hopefully this will bring more fans and get more people to be interested in the games!
Now it's up to Yu Suzuki and his team to make Shenmue 4 a reality and a success!

Solid Adaptation, one ofthe best I saw so far. Wonder if one day, they will make a season 2, maybe when Shenmue 4 will be out!

I love it. Probably because I've never played the game, but honestly I've seen worse adaptation.

As usual, Lan Di gets away without even a single scratch upon Him; He's literally among the biggest Chads in ALL of fiction! With this ending, I definitely sense an upcoming Season 2,which is good. I just hope we don't end up having to wait SOOOO LOOOOOOOOOOOONG! 💖

While Ryou has learned a lot so far, he certainly has ways to go before beating Dan Li up.

Haven't played the games so I don't know how this adaptation measures up but I quite enjoyed it for its old-school vibes and the feel of the story playing out like an actual videogame.

I have to say, one thing that I have the say the anime even did better than the games was depict Ryo's anger towards Lan Di. In the games I never got a real sense that Ryo had a lot of anger built up inside of him even though everyone kept saying it. However here it definitely showed much more comparatively.

Why the hell is this so underated i was very hyped up while watching this series

If this gets enough recognition, maybe Shenmue 4 will become a reality. Here's hoping.

I knew Lan Di was gonna escape again. Overall, though, a superb adaptation of the first two Shenmue games. I wonder what's in store for Crunchyroll and Adult Swim after this one?

alright so first 2 games are finished in the form of anime. so that means we could see a season 2 of Shenmue in the future. but i need to also add the fact Shenmue 4 might of been teased so we could see a 4th game so season 2 could come out afther the 4th game if the 4th game happenes

Finally ryo vs lan di after that battle Ryo didn't stand a chance to lan di. Ryo tried to hit lan di everything he got but it's not effective then lan di just one punched ryo and ryo almost got unconscious but he's ok

A goat is suddenly in the river the shenhue girl also dove and tried to save the goat and ryo saw it so he also dive glad there's a branch tree there to save them it's all because of that goat, that goat is sus maybe he's the villain all along
